Respect and Responsibility

Think about yourself during the "don't touch me activity" when sharing your answers. (responsibilty) Did you take personal responsibilty for your actions during the activity, explain yourself? (respect) Where you open to solutions that were different from your own? If yes give an example. If no then why not?

  1. I believe I took personal responsibility by doing what I was asked to. For example, when people said to count of by 1,2 in order to complete the goal (of game) I did what I supposed to. In another instance, when we were walking 17 carpet squares,I contributed. Overall, I respected other people's opinions (solutions), but I did see myself getting frustrated when some people were not open to other ideas and only conversed amongst themselves. For example, when a student talked about the walking 17 tile idea, most people denied the student's idea at first by only sticking to their solutions. In general, I was pretty open to other solutions other than mine, but I think I can work on contributing ideas and being more open in a positive attitude. This game really tested the respect part of our full value contract

I think that i showed responsibilty because when i did get anger or fustrated, i stop talking and took time to myself to rethink things over. I didnt take it out on others. I also, showed respect because i didnt shoot down anyone's idea, i was open about all suggestions, and willing to try them all to see which worked better for the whole group.

  3. I took personal responsibility by following the procedure which the majority of the class agreed on. Also, I contributed my own opinions and ideas for solutions, but I listened to and respected the ideas of others.

  4. I took personal responsibility because I made sure I followed through with the plan that was decided. Sometimes, I disagreed with the plan and I didn't think it was going to be successful, and it was hard following through with the plan, but I still went along with it because I knew I had to be responsible for the plan to work.
I think that, overall, I was open to solutions that were different from my own. An example would be when someone thought of all going to touch the hula hoop at once. I was a bit skeptical, but when I was open to trying the idea, I realized that it was effective in lowering our time. Being open-minded helped me realize that there are some effective ideas out there, some of which may be better than my own.

  5. I took personal responsibility for myself throughout the game. When I had a responsibility to follow the rules or to be careful to not touch anyone, I was showing my responsibility towards the group. I also respected other peoples' ideas and solutions. For example, I listened to the ideas and followed their role in the game. By participating in other peoples ideas, I showed respect for the ideas.

  6. I took personal responsibility for my actions by following the rules of the game and by agreeing to the solution that the group came up with. Even if I didn't think the plan would work out, I did it anyways and sometimes I was surprised with the results. I was open to solutions that were different from my own because in order the get the best results you need different ideas from everyone.

  7. I took responsibility for my actions by not touching anyone and saying if something was not working. I was open to solutions other than my own either because no one would listen to other ideas from other people or because someone had a very good idea. The "leaders" that were coming up with ideas should have started to listen to people more because it could have been done faster. I believe the only way for tall the activities to work is if everyone listens to the others ideas.

  10. I took personal responsibility by making sure, when the timer started that, i was paying attention to when it was my turn to go and by making sure i wasnt going to touch anyone during the activity. I was open to suggestions in finding a way to get the fastest time. I liked that our classmates were able to combine a few different ideas and in the end that proved to be the best way.

  11. I took responsibility for myself when I followed the procedure of the game, like with the counting and not touching anyone. I also respected everyone's ideas, but I was hesitant towards ideas that I doubted would work. I can still work on being open to other different ideas.

  12. I believe I took responsibility for what I did. I did what was required for what was planned by the group. I was open to other's ideas. I listened to what everyone suggested, and followed through when everyone decided to test something. For example, when we moved seventeen spaces, and then touched the hoop.

  13. I took personal responsibility during the activity by following how the class decided to do the activity. I also had to make sure i followed the rules of the game of touching the middle of the circle and not touching anyone else. I respected others by listening to their ideas. I was quickly open to other peoples ideas when I realized they made more sense than the one I had.

  14. I took responsibility in this activity by sharing my ideas with the people around me. I was open to everyones ideas and didn't mind doing the activity a way that was different than mine. I was respectful, responsible, and cooperative. Although, at times I was frustrated because it seemed as if everyone wanted to talk and no one really listened. Next time, we should be more efficient when it comes to brainstorming.

  15. I made sure i was doing what i was supposed to do during the activity so i didnt ruin it for other people, also when people presented ideas to the class, i would listen and try to expand on their ideas.

  17. I was absent during the "don't touch me activity" and I'm not sure how to answer this blog. I will discuss with you (Mr. H) about what we did in this activity on tuesday?

  18. I feel like I kept myself accountable during the game, making sure not to touch other people or the middle ring. I also tried to be respectful of other people's ideas and thoughts during the game, but I think sometimes I got a little frustrated like some other people have said. Overall, I seemed to agree with one solution for completing the task and it was hard to hear people argue about a million different ways instead of all just agreeing to focus on one, but I tried to stay open minded and accepting.

  19. I believe that I took personal responsibility for my actions by being a follower that did what I was told and contributed when appropriate. I was open to different solutions because at first I wanted to rush the hula hoop and just try to do it as quickly as possible, but then when we did it the way we did at the very end, it turned out much better than my idea was.

  20. During the activity, I think I took personal responsibility in trying to help the class do well in the activity. I listened to everyone who spoke up while thinking of other ideas that could work. I also tried to help some people around me that seemed confused. I was open to anybody's solutions. For example, when someone suggested that we try to touch the inside of the circle with just our finger instead of our whole foot, I was open to the idea while others didn't want to try it because they thought it wouldn't work.

  21. i felt like i took responsibility of myself when i shared my ideas with everyone to help out. I voiced my opinion but i also respected the opinions of others. even though it got frusterating on day two when we still didnt figure out how to complete the activity i kept an open mind.

  23. I think I took responsibility for myself, and I did what I was asked to do to cooperate with the ideas given. Yes, I was open to the solutions that people came up with. For example I cooperated when a solution was brought up to switch places with your partner by walking around in a circle first rather than crossing through the circle. I think it's important for all people's opionions and ideas to be heard and taken into consideration, but in this activity I observed people who had really good ideas but were out numbered by a group of people that were focused on their own ideas.

  24. I took responsibility for myself on making sure I knew exactly where I was going and who my partner was and I took some leadership and suggested the idea of touching the circle after going though. I was open to others ideas because they could improve off of mine which is exactly what Alex did and it worked.

  25. Responsibility:
In a lot of ways, I did take responsibility for my actions. I made sure I did not touch any one and if I had, I would have said that I did. But the only way I was not responsible was when we were counting carpet squares and running in the middle, I relied on others around me to make sure I sat in the right spot.

    Respect:
I think everyone, including me, was very open in other ideas. This was a very unique exercise that none of us really had any idea how to solve. So one person would throw out an idea, and the rest of us would collaborate on that idea. In the end, our final result was not one persons idea at all. For example,we used someone's idea to walk around the circle first, and we use used someone else's idea to run in the circle in groups.

  26. For the responsibility aspect, I think I did take responsibility for my actions. If someone was close to touching me I made sure I moved out of the way and if I accidentally touched someone I would fess up and say I did. As for the respect aspect, I was definitely open to new ideas because I myself wasn't exactly sure how to do it so any new idea sounded good to me.Although I will admit, it was hard to communicate new ideas across the circle when someone thought of one because we tried to work with the idea before sharing it to everyone. I think that is one thing we could have worked on with respect is respect everyone and making sure everyone is included.
