After hearing the letter from a mother, I thought that the little things I worry about is nothing to people around me. Like if I fall or trip down the school stairs others will think abut it for 2 seconds and never think about it again; I do not have to be paranoid about it. In short, I should not be concerned about what others think about me because their opinions will only last for 2 seconds. The letter was a good form of advice to our class because whatever we do the opinions of other will only last for seconds; we should now be fearless knowing this fact
There was one thing in particular that stod out to me from the letter. It was that "nothing is unfixable". I was able to relate to this because I sometimes have bad/embarrassing moments and I think it's the end of the world. I always think my mistakes/problems are too large to fix. But what the mom said was right: things will always get better. Things have always gotten better for me. Even though I thought everyone was going to remember some of my embarrassing moments from last week, they didn't. And even though I thought some problems were too big to fix one month ago, they turned out to be fixable. From my experience, I can say that the mother's advice is 100% true.
Wkat the mother said was right. Puople forget quikly. Even if embarrassment stuck around for that boy, or that guilt will probably stick around with the boy and girl, the people around them forget. -Rob Fisk
i always thought what would i do if i embarrassed myself or if someone embarrassed me. Even though it was for the one moment and people kept making fun of me for at least a week, i think i would be okay, but if it was for the whole school year or forever in my life which i doubt will happen, i would probably be depressed and do something about it. i was very touched by the letter and made me think about all the other students at our school that was made fun of. -Yvonne Kang
After hearing that letter, the main statement that stood out to me was that nothing is unfixable. Yes, many things can feel like they have no solutions, but with time things tend to work out. I know during high school, people only think about the direct future. Though we need to realize that's not the only thing in our lives. -Maggie Lundholm
My favorite line from this letter was: "NOTHING you do will ever keep us from loving you. NOTHING you do could be so awful you can't get past it." I know we are supposed to be looking at this letter on how it should improve our attitudes toward fleeting embarrassing or awkward moments but that line to me was extremely important, and shows no matter what there are people who will care regardless of whether its a parent/relative a teacher a friend or a gay partner. This line also hits on the statement the mother is trying to really get across.. that 'nothing is unfixable'. It's really upsetting to think of the fact that that boy might still be alive if he had read words like this written from his own mother. It's even more upsetting that his roommate would be so heartless and cruel to do such a thing as post this video for others to see, and now they will have to face the consequences.. That was my reaction to this letter
I thought it was very smart of the mother to be overprotective in writing this letter. She has the right to write the letter to tell her son this. I thought that what happened should never happen to anyone because it is true that no matter what happens, there is no point in taking your life for it. Even though he was very embarrassed, people and he would get over it eventually. I really hope this does not happen again. And I hope a lot of parents do the same as this mom did by writing a letter. -Grace Neubauer
From the letter, the part about that nothing the child could do would make the mother not love him stood out to me. This goes back to the part about nothing being unfixable. This stood out to me, because recently I've been caught up in getting in trouble with my parents. But hearing this makes me realize that it will not change anything, no matter what at the end of the day they will still love me. And towards school, no one is going to remember all the stupid stuff you do. Jordan Marotta
When you read the letter I kind of wanted to cry because it was really touching to me. To have a mother that cares so much, to uplift her child. It not only made think what the child was thinking but it made me feel stronger.
After hearing the letter, It really helped me realize that people do forget quickly and we have to realize that things are quickly forgotten, we should not worry too much about things that embarrass us because most of the time they are quickly forgotten. I also liked the part about how the mother says nothing will make them stop loving you because thats how it should be, love from your family and friends should be unconditional.
this letter probaly meant a lot to every student in the class, no matter what. it was a very touching letter. it has also taught us not to worry, things will be forgotten, just give it time. no one can remember everything that happens in their life. love is an endless thing, friends and family alike will always love you.
Just like everyone else has been saying, this letter really touched me. I think it's really important to realize that things get better, no matter what, and that there will always be people who love and support you.
I think the thing that stood out to me most was the part where she mentioned how important it was to not let others be mean, and to stand up for the underdog. I think this is something that nobody does as often as we should, and that a lot of really terrible things could have been prevented if we did so more often. -Michelle Erickson
(I feel as though I'm repeating what everyone else has said) But I really was moved by her statement that nothing can ruin your life. I personally have been going through some hard stuff lately, yet I've pulled through. I just love how that totally relates to my life. It's so true. It helped me to remember that my life isn't meant to be over yet, and that this bad situation will help me grow as a person and develop my character for the better.
I think it's important for people to recognize that they have a purpose and no situations should decide their fate for them.
i think that the letter was very good and it was sincere. the mom who wrote the letter made some very good points and especially when she said nothing is worth taking a life.i think the people who posted the video are dumb and should be charged with some type of murder because they basically killed this kid. i feel bad for the mom and the family and she wrote a very good letter
What the mother said about forgetting about the situation is definitely true. And I also liked how she wrote the letter to her child reminding him of it even though she didn't "need" to. It was just her "mommy job." It showed how much she cared and looked out for her son.
I thought that the most important theme in the letter was how "nothing is unfixable." Meaning that the mother, a source of wisdom, could take a step back and fully analyze the situation. On the other hand, the victim was young, frantic, and didn't know who to turn to. It was an unfortunate situation, that could have been avoided in the first place. Also, I found a quote that I thought went along with the theme of the essay: “Be Who You Are and Say What You Feel Because Those Who Mind Don't Matter and Those Who Matter Don't Mind.” -Dr. Seuss
After listening to the letter, I realized that no matter how bad the embarassment gets, people will always forget about it and move on. People that you are close with will be there to support you like the mother who wrote this letter to her child. Eventually, you'll get over the embarassment and people will move on to other things.
The letter really made it clear that nothing ruins your life forever, and it is absolutely possible to get through anything over time. Things are never as bad as they seem.
First, obviously, she displayed her vivid love for her child which reminds me of my mom right now. Shes been out of town for a little over a week and she tries to send me a loving message every chance she gets.
Second, the mom brings up a more significant, and general point. She explains to her son, and everyone reading the blog how to get through tough time. You may not be gay, you may not even be discriminated against, but even if you are going through another kind of problem, you can ALWAYS make it. Eventually (we must remind ourselves) things do get better.
I fully agree with the point made by the mother that "Nothing ruins your life forever." With the time pass by, everything changes in a while, nothing is permanent. what you did last moment,it's now gone and already became a history. Now that you already have done it,why make yourself feel bad about it? it's so useless, so just let it go and start your life from a new moment and continue it.
I think the letter is helpful and encouraging to everyone. It can help you in everyday life just applying it to small things, it doesn't need to escalate to life or death. I particularly noticed that it said to be by those who are supportive and I think that is what could best be applied to this class. It is important for our class to be supportive of eachother and that way we can always be comfortable around one another and helpful in any type of situation.
The main point I got from the letter was that time heals everything. When you do something embarassing or awkward, people might think different things about you at the time, but eventually they will forget about it. It's also important to understand that people will never judge others based on one event. This can relate to class because we often do activities where people might feel embarassed or awkward, and this letter shows that it's okay to feel that way sometimes.
Overall, this letter had a huge impact on me. The main point that stood out to me the most was " nothing can change your life forever. nothing." I think we forget this a lot and it gave me a huge reminder. No matter what you are doing wether it be making a complete fool out of yourself in class or trying to make new friends. Nothing will change your life forever. It made me realize don't live in the moment, and if your worried about something in the moment think about the big picture and realize that in the long run it won't change your life forever. So, go ahead and be goofy during the gym activity or go ahead and step out of your comfort zone to try and meet those new people. I just think it is such a powerful reminder. No matter how stressful or low life can get, it can only get better so before we look to the negative think of the bright side and that it can only go up from there.
This letter really relates to me because of being bullied before in the past. The mother was very strong when she wrote that letter about her son. I believe that every person should stand up for themselves and try new things because every new thing that you try is another step out of your comfort zone.:)
I love this letter that the mom wrote. It is so true. My brother has aspergers so his social skills are not to great. He would come home crying all the time because the kids were mean to him on the bus. I find it ridiculous that kids are so mean to those who are different than them. Either they cannot help it in my brother's case or they simply like different things than you. For those kids that receive the bullying, the mom was right when she said it will get better. Someone will always care about you even if you don't think so. I also promise you this!
This letter really affected me. I think it's so important to know that other people care about you, and are always going to be there for you, because I feel like we forget that when times get rough. I think more people need to be reminded of this. When people tend to be down, they're so stuck in that moment and can't see how things could get better in their life, but with time, things change. Taking your life is only a permanent solution to a temporary problem. I think everyone should be whoever they want to be; it's their life and not have to deal with people critiqing each and every move. Feeling as though you can't be yourself without being judged is no way to live. Unfortunantely people will tease, gossip, bully; you name it, but it's the fact of looking beyond the negativity and being confident with who you are and knowing you have someone that loves you for exactly who you are.
