Trust Falls

Give us your thougts about how the trust falls went for you. How was this easy for you, or not easy for you? Why where you able to accomplish this task? What did you really get out of doing this activity? Why do you feel this was important for us to do?

  1. The trust falls went well with my group, and I think it was because we all didn't want it to be our fault if someone got dropped, so we were extra careful. It was pretty easy for me (aside from the jitters I got right before I went) because I had seen many people go ahead of me and succeed. I believe we were able to accomplish it because we all knew that if we used teamwork, cooperation, and trust, along with communication, everything would run smoothly. We didn't stop to worry about anything, we just did as we were supposed to do, and everything fell (ha ha) into place, as it was supposed to. What I got out of this was trust (as obvious as that is). I learned that it is so easy to trust people, but also so easy for that trust to be broken. But without that first step in trust, even when you know the outcome could possibly be bad, nothing can be accomplished. I think that was important because it built trust with people who were randomly assigned to each group. It will help us later trust each other when rappelling, and help us to learn to recognize the importance of communication right before we fell or when we're rappelling.

  2. At first when I heard the word "Trust Fall" I thought to myself "No Way!" The first time the (original trust fall)I was frightened by what would happen to me if my team does not catch me!As I stood there my back to my team members and asking "Spotters are you Read?" I was shaking with nervousness more than excitement. In the end, they caught me and everything was good. The second time around (runaway trust fall), everything was more relaxed and my team had my trust.

I was able to complete this task because I was able to know more about the class through team building activities. The activities we did in class like electric fence and "If you really knew me..." build a classroom relationship, which helped in the long run. In short, I learned trust the class and was able to fall knowing my teams would catch me.

After the trust fall, I knew for a fact I could depend on my class. I got the feeling that within our class, everyone would help each other out and make sure everyone is safe.

The trust fall activity was a crucial activity for us to do because it creates a bigger bond in the classroom. We all worked together to keep one person safe and the person falling was able to fully trust their classmates. The trust fall activity is important in many ways but the fact that it creates a stronger classroom bond and learning to work together makes it a worthwhile activity.

  3. I wasn't here on Wednesday so im not sure how the second trust fall went, but on Tuesday i think that the trust falls went well for my group because even though not everyone wanted to go because it looked scary, we all ended up going. I was a bit scared because the blocks we were standing on before the fall were alot taller then i thought they would be and it was scary to look down and see that big of a drop. My first trust fall didnt go the best it could have because i was all stiff and tried really hard to stay stiff but toward the end i know i started to bend/sit and that probably made it more diffcult for my group to catch me. I think if i got the chance to do it again i might be better at it. I think its really important to do this activity because if we cant trust people catching us off a 5 ft platform then how are we going to trust our classmates to make sure we dont fall off a 50 foot wall. I think this activity helps us understand that most of us have a similar fear of heights or trust. This activity helps our class bond with each other and team work is a big part of this activity along with trust.

  4. I remember when I first saw the senior adventure class doing the trust falls, I felt really bad for them.....until I found out that we were going to do them too! I was really scared at first, but when I saw each of my group members being caught, I felt reassured. The first time I went, I wasn't able to keep my body stiff and I was sort of disappointed in myself for being so afraid and not being able to trust my group completely. The second time I went, though, I was actually able to keep my body stiff-- probably because I knew, after the first fall, that I wasn't going to be dropped. The biggest thing that I got out of this activity was being able to trust everyone and not just my friends or the people I talk to every day. There were a lot of people in my group who I didn't really talk to or know that well, but I was able to trust them. I think this activity was important for us to do because once we start repelling, we need to use the methods of communication and the trust that we learned from doing the trust falls.

  5. the one thing im scared of is heights. I guess falling frontwards is okay, but backwards is so scary. When we first started the activity, i waited for others to go first because i was really scared and thought that no one would end up catching me, so i watched everyone else go. As each of my group members went one by one, i notcied that the people that were falling really seemed confident. When it came to my turn i was panicking a lot. As i said " spotters ready?" i had this feeling that they WERE going to catch me and tht i trusted them. as i said "im falling", i heard there confident response of we'll catch you. I think that after this trust fall, i was able to trust others in my class and it helped me to commuincate with them more.

  6. It was not easy for me to do this because I'm afraid of heights and falling I guess, but I think everyone is. I knew that the people catching me would not deliberately let me fall to the ground and I knew it wouldn't kill me if I fell, so I was able to do it eventually. I learned that I am able to trust everyone. Maybe not trust them with every part of my life, but in gym class everything should be fine. It was good that we did this activity because now we can trust everyone with different parts of the class that will come.

  7. To be honest, it was a lot easier doing it in the demonstration then it was doing it for real. What I felt during the whole trust fall is kind of when you fall back you have a hint of resentment and that's exactly why you crotch because of how you regret just a tiny bit. What I accomplished during the trustfalls for me was getting over the fear of falling just a tiny bit. What I definitely got out of it was helping others I'm trying to cope with their fears of falling and making sure they don't get scared when falling so I usually say " it's okay, you got this. Just trust us.". What it did was to make the person feel more comfortable when they fall back. In our group we just had one flop but no one was hurt and that's good. Hopefully we will get over our many fears of falling throughout the trustfalls and it will get us a step closer to the Devils Lake trip. :) -Courtney Olsberg

  8. I think it was easy for me because I know no one was going to drop me. No one would drop a person on purpose anyways so I had fun doing this. One thing that was hard was counting down from ten because I wasn't sure if I was counting too fast and it didn't give them enough time to get back and set up. Doing this activity was needed because it will help us get closer as a group and hopefully it will spread to the while class. My group was pretty awesome because they were all positive and we as a group had a great time, and then got serious when it was time to. I or out a lot from this activity , llike actually talking to people I don't noranlly talk to, like Sarahhhhh:) and along with others and got more comfortable.

  9. It was not easy for me because I'm afraid of heights. I knew that my group would catch me and would not let me fall, but I was just so scared.
I was able to accomplish this task because I thought as least I need to challenge myself once, otherwise I couldn't even do other activities later in the year. What I learned from this activity was to overcome my fear and challenge myself. This activity was important for us since it helped us to trust each other and how to communicate with each other.

  10. This activity seemed easy when we started, but when I got up on the block facing away from the catchers it got really scary. I trusted that my group would catch me, I just didn't know if I could trust my own body to do everything correctly, like if I just angled off towards someone's head in the middle of my fall. The final result when you felt everyone catch you though, was extremely relieving. The hardest part though, was when was other felt on comfortable. It was hard to ensure them that we could catch them. The trust we built during this activity will help us when we are in other scary situations though ought the year (repelling).

  11. The trust falls were fun. I was scared at first for the runaway trust fall but falling made me really trust my group even more. It was easy to trust my group, and more difficult to concentrate on not letting my body bend. I was confident in my group. At one point my group had a mishap, this lost the positive outlook on falling for a bit. After that we did activities to build up the trust again, like having someone lay down on the floor beneath the falling person. This activity helped us trust different people. The trust falls will help us throughout the year with trusting other classmates, especially with repelling.

  12. My group handled the trust falls fairly well. We all seemed to be comfortable catching everyone and nobody had much difficulty when falling. After the first few people in my group fell, I know I would be safe when falling. I was mainly worried about falling down straight and at the right angle. We were able to accomplish this task because we all knew our group wouldn't drop us and trusted each other to make sure everyone was safe. This activity showed that everyone will be there to catch us when we fall, meaning that if we ever feel like we're in a bad situation, the class will always be there to protect us. This activity was important to do because it made us put all of our trust into our classmates since this was a risky activity, unlike previous activities where we didn't have to put as much trust into our classmates since there was less risk involved.

  13. My group did really well with the trust falls. Even if everybody wasn't super comfortable falling the first time, we all got through it and were really successful each time. Even though we were initially freaked out as we moved onto each different "level" of trust, I think we handled each one really well. I think this was a really good start to the repelling that we'll be doing soon. After the first time you fell, once you got over the fear, it started actually to becoming kind of fun.

  14. I thought that the trust falls went very good for my group. Our group was doing really really good so i feel like everyone who was falling off the block trusted that we would catch them. For me, I had total trust in my group to catch me and i wasn't scared at all. i think that this activity was important because it helped us to get to know eachother and be able to put complete trust in eachother which will come in handy later.

  15. I think the group I was in did well. I think I did ok on the falling, but I'm not used to someone catching me. In the past when I have fallen, I have figured out how, without hurting myself, so it was probably a slight bit harder to fall the way I was supposed to. However I trusted that everyone could be caught, as everyone has a first instinct to help someone, even when it isn't logistical. The activity was, as the name suggests, to trust one another.

  16. I thought that the trust falls were going to be easier than they actually were. I knew that my group members would not let me fall and I tried hard to keep my body straight and easy to catch even though it wasn't perfect in the end. When my group members caught me it was a huge relief to be in their arms and not lying on the floor. Even though for the 10 second trust fall I had a little mishap, I still trusted my group. They didn't even come close to dropping me. From this activity, I understand that I can trust people even if something out of the ordinary happens. I think it was important for us to do this because the class became closer together and a whole new level of trust has been built between us.

  17. I thought the trust falls were actually fun after you do it once, and it wasn't exactly easy because I was nervous my group would drop me. They didn't drop anyone else so when I was up I was pretty confident they would catch me.I believe not only me but the rest of my group walked away feeling more comfortable with such an activity, since simply watching it freaked some of us out. I feel now we will be able to reference this and apply our feelings with other activities that we feel shaky with.

  18. i felt comfortable falling with my group at the beginning but i didn`t trust myswlf enough to fall the right way. i think i trusted my group more than i expected because we had a lot of boys so i knew my group was strong enough to catch me. it was exciting and scary all at the same time on my first fall but it was worth it in the end. i got to be in a small group with a lot of people i don`t know very well. I`m glad i got to get to know more people that i probably wouldn`t have on my own. the activity is important to our class because we had to put our entire trust into random people that we have just met. i`m excited to move on to repelling because i`m ready to trust any group i`m in.

  19. The trust fall to me was more fun and a rush than the other activities we've done. To me it wasn't as scary because I knew that my group would at least try to catch me. The scarier part to me was acticipating having to catch other people and worrying if I wouldn't be able to. That part was scary only because I wasn't sure if I was going to drop someone even if they trusted me. Yikes, right? I thought this task was more important than others because it really made people apply one by one the trust in the class. Im excited to see what other fun tasks are waiting in our future now. :)

  20. I enjoyed doing the trust fall with my group. I was really nervous because i was scared that i was not going to fall straight. So everyone did the trust fall and it was my turn. I went up on the mat and waited for my group to be ready. To be honest, I didn't focus on trusting part. I focused on falling straight so it would be easier for them to catch me safely. But after a while, i got comfortable falling and had fun!

  21. The trust falls were difficult for me. I was really nervous to fall from the block, just hearing the smack sound from people falling really made me worried that it would hurt, or maybe something would go wrong. Plus, most everyone in my group was smaller than me so it didn't give me much confidence. I told myself I wasn't going to do it..but once most everyone went, I felt like well if they all did it, then so can I. I hestitated before falling, but after I felt like I accomplished something and got over my fear..it was a good feeling. To be completely honest, I don't think I really gained that much trust. I think it helped people bond and communicate more though, so that's definantely a positive!

  22. I think the trust falls went really well with my group. When i first heard we were going to be doing trust falls i was a little nervous about it, but after a couple people in my group went i decided just to go for it and get it done before i scared myself too much. after doing it once it was easier for me to trust my group the second time around. Besides trust, i think this activity helped us with communication and respect, too.

  23. The first trust fall that I did was slightly scary, but it also helped me understand what other people were feeling right before they were about to do their fall. After I had done my trust fall, I had walked in their shoes and was more sensitive to their hesitation or fear. Doing the trust falls made me feel more confident in both my classmates and H's crazy activities. =D

  24. i thought the trust falls were pretty fun but alittle scary at the same time. its alittle hard to put all of ur trust into people but thats what this class is aboutand i think it helped with the rapelling. it was hard to fall at first, but it got easier each time i fell. it helped me trust the people inh the gym class more
